St. Procop's Church Interior - Cleveland Ohio

The above photos offer a glimpse into the stunning interior of St. Procop's Catholic Church in Cleveland, OH. I'm not sure who painted the murals -- they are first rate, as are the stained glass windows and other furnishings. It's hard to believe this treasure is scheduled to close in 2010.

  3. I belong to St. Procop. It is one of the most beautiful churchs around. It's not over done like some old churchs. It's beauty is breathtaking. It breaks my heart to think we will probably be closing.

  4. As a young girl I went to St. Procop's. My father's sister attended well into her 80's as well as serving as one of the altar workers. St. Procop's was / is a beautiful building and it is sad to think it has outlived it's usefulness to the Catholic diocese of Cleveland. I fully understand how demographics change and the result is to close buildings that aren't being used to their full capacity but what I don't understand is why the newer buildings that were built when the population was on the rise aren't the ones to be shuttered, rather than these grand (historical) structures. I certainly hope this doesn't end up being auctioned off to some organization that has no respect for what this building stood for (namely - built to the glory of God)

  5. Our family has ties to the Cleveland area and St Procops Church. We now live in Middlebranch, Ohio and attend Little Flower St Theresa Catholic Church. Our priest recently purchased a marble statue of Blessed Virgin Mary with St. Theresa giving her roses while she held Baby Jesus on her lap. We were happy to learn that this statue was from St. Procops. It is at our entrance and everyone is so glad that it has a new home with us. It will be cherished and appreciated by everyone who sees it.

  6. I lived directly across the street at 4190 West 41st Street in the early 40's and went to school there and my Mother use to wash, starch and iron a lot of the white lacy Priest's Garments and would deliver them when finished to the Nun's House..I was just a wee lad at the time , but was always awed of how quite and still the Nun's House was when we went. My Mother often got a Holy Card from Mother Superior
